Wow! what a year it has been for the Sussex Fireplace Company.

The final woodburning stove installations of 2018 are just been finished up this week and we close for business on Friday 21st at 4pm.

I’d like to thank all those customers who we worked with over the last year. The past 12 months have seen some beautiful stove installs by our hard-working band of  HETAS registered installers. We have worked all over the southeast and I would like to give special thanks to the people of Worthing, Chichester and Brighton & Hove for their support and custom. This year brought us to far-flung places like Cheltenham, Bournemouth and London. We were delighted to get out on the road and bring our expertise on the not so well trodden road.

This year has been all about looking at our business, the services we provide and how we can expand our capabilities to offer customers even more!! As a result, the Sussex Fireplace Company now have a wide range of tradesmen available to complete any job, whether that be gas works, building or plastering we offer it all.

We have also arranged a new free delivery service to all of the South East and London. look out over the coming months for special delivery only offers at knockdown prices.

January will bring huge savings on a wide variety of our stoves and fireplaces so keep an eye out if you want the cold winter months to be that little warmer in the new year.

That’s why we provide a carbon monoxide monitor free of charge for every install.  All our installations are carried out in line with Document J of the building regulations.

The Do’s and Don’ts of looking after your Wood Burning Stove

Don’t wait until the snow starts to fall

Many of us forget about our wood burning stoves in the warm summer months. It’s understandable since we love to spend as much time in the great outdoors as possible. However, the warmer months are the perfect time to make sure your stove is ready for the dark cold nights of autumn and winter. In addition, stove installation companies can help their customers out more quickly without the long waiting times of the colder months.

Do clean your wood burning stove regularly

A working stove should be kept clear of ash and debris. Not only does regular cleaning maintain the stove’s charming and attractive appearance it also serves as a fire preventative measure. Ash and soot can pose a fire hazard so make sure you and your family are safe by cleaning out the ash pan regularly.

Do get your chimney swept regularly

You should always call in a chimney sweep at least once a year (or more regularly if you think it is needed)  to make sure that your chimney is clear of blockages and free of soot that again could cause a fire hazard. Chimney sweeps will look at the structural integrity of the chimney and give you the peace of mind that everything is in good working order.

Do have a carbon monoxide alarm fitted

Carbon monoxide is a colourless and odourless gas, which is produced by your wood burning stove. Safely fitted stoves make sure that the gas escapes into the atmosphere. To make sure that you and your family are totally safe, you must have a carbon monoxide detector fitted in your home and it must be checked regularly. If there is a serious problem the carbon monoxide detector will alert you.

Don’t burn unseasoned wet logs or wood

Only burn wood with a moisture content below 20%, preferably wood that has been seasoned for over one year. This lower moisture content wood prevents against tar deposits building up in the flue resulting in an unsafe system that can put your health at risk. Materials like plastics etc produce noxious fumes which will again affect your health and block your flue.
